Joshua Creek Public School

JOSHUA CREEK PUBLIC SCHOOL [more pictures]

Contracted by the Halton District School Board, STF was the successful proponent of a prequalified tender to complete an addition to Joshua Creek Public School. The project is comprised of two main components: the addition of a second storey on top of an existing ground floor, and a new ground floor addition. The addition will add 11 new classrooms in total to the school. This project uses some state-of-the-art mechanical technology for the delivery of heating and cooling through the use of the cores of the hollow core roof planks. The principle of 'thermal storage' is used to deliver an environmentally conscious system while also increasing the comfort level for the occupants in the space it services. This project is now complete and has been used as intended since early 2009. The air quality benefits are already evident as staff and students can realize the difference in between new and previously existing spaces. Also, the mechanical systems are fitted with a display monitor that can show the children (and staff) the activities of the systems in the building and serve as a teaching tool.

BURKE SCIENCE BUILDING RENOVATIONS [more pictures]

STF Construction is beginning the Third Phase of a major renovation project for McMaster University’s Burke Science Building. Operating as Construction Managers and Constructor, and commencing back in 2004, STF has overseen the demolition of the interior of this entire building to the main building structure and rebuilt to include all new mechanical and electrical systems and up-to-date finishes.

Constructed under LEEDs technology, key components to this project are a new elevator shaft, mechanical penthouse and extensive mechanical and electrical systems installations; all phases to date have been successfully completed while managing partial building occupancy.

Discussed originally to be renovations to only a portion of the first floor, this project progressed to also include a complete renovation of the second floor and an entirely new roof. All remaining storeys of the four floor structure have remained occupied during construction posing challenges such as maintaining mechanical services during new tie-ins and restraints on noise and construction traffic.

Acting as Construction Manager and Constructor, STF completed the project on time.

To meet the increasing population in the southwest Milton area, Fieldgate Elementary School will be over 70,000 square feet once complete and will house classes from Kindergarten to Grade 8 for the Halton District School Board. After some revisions to the foundations of the building to deal with less than ideal existing soils, and subsequently the use of some new granular fill, progress on the school has been in full swing since early spring. Masonry, precast planks, structural steel and mechanical and electrical trades are well underway with their respective work. STF expects completion of the project to allow for early 2010 occupancy.

Mackenzie Chown ITS Renovations

Brock University - Mackenzie Chown ITS Renovations

Late 2007, STF began interior renovations to the busy ITS office facilities at Brock University in St. Catharines. Designed as a two-phase project, STF is working with Brock to maintain the day-to-day operations in an adjacent area and provide a smooth transition for the users to their new facilities. Complete for some time now, Brock University staff and students are enjoying the reconfigured space and new colours.
